The Port is in the process of applying for funding under the State Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) Planning Grant program. This potential funding will be used to assist in developing an Advanced Wood Products Manufacturing in Clallam County Economic Feasibility Study.
At the Port Commission Meeting scheduled for July 17, 2017 at 1:00 P.M., Port Administration Building, 338 W. First Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362, the Commissioners will consider Resolution 17-1153 authorizing the Executive Director to make a formal application to CERB for $50,000 of funding assistance.
Advanced wood products and cross laminated timber (CLT) manufacturing is an exciting step forward in the timber industry that goes hand in hand with reliable and sustainable timber harvest in our county. CLT panels are constructed by bonding together of layers of dimensional lumber to form massive timber panels. The panels are used in walls, floors and roofs and are a direct cost-effective replacement for steel or concrete construction in many modern structures.
The proposed economic feasibility study would access the regions timber supply, identify potential producers and local manufacturing capacity, and propose ways to overcome startup and barriers to market.
Interested parties may make comment regarding this CERB funding application or other issues during two public comment periods during each commission meeting. Out of respect for everyone attending, speakers are asked to keep their comments to less than three minutes each.
